Follow the Leader
What To Do
Play Simon Says with your child using commands that incorporate positional language. Model the meanings of the positional words as needed.
For example: Simon Says clap your hands above your head. Simon Says turn around. Simon Says look up. Simon says look down.
If Simon Says feels too complicated, begin by playing “follow the leader” where you model actions (and describe them with words) and your child follows your lead. Maintain interest by changing the actions frequently during play and praising your child for watching closely and following along.
What To Know
Using their bodies to act out position and direction terms can help children learn these concepts and terms.
