Match Number Names to Sets of Objects
What You Need
What To Do
Talk about number when you're playing with your child. If you're playing with toy cars, you can say, "Oh look! Three cars! One, two, three.“
What To Know
Research shows that children have an easier time learning if you label and then count, rather than asking "How many?" because children get to see how counting and number names are related.
When your child can give you a number of objects upon request, it might be time to move on. Try asking for sets of 5 to 10 objects, as smaller sets (1 to 3) can be seen without counting.
