Place several items together, and ask your child how many more you would need to get to a given number. For example, “Here are two pencils. How many more do we need so that there are enough for all four of us?”

Make math helpful. This activity is a great one for young kids to see how math helps to solve problems. For example, hand your child 2 napkins when setting the table, and ask how many more you need so that everyone has one.
